Both models are available in pressure ratings from 10,000 psi to 50,000 psi (700 to 3,500 bars) with 8-inch (20 cm) diameter pneumatic operators.

heavy-duty Air Operated Plunger Pumps

The pneumatic operators are constructed from high strength, heavy-duty, heat treated aluminum. These pumps are not of the light duty type usually constructed from stampings. A unique, heavy-duty, air transfer valve is provided with the operator to transfer the low-pressure pneumatic impulse from one side of the pneumatic piston to the other at the end of the pumping stroke. This valve allows pumping to continue even at very slow rates of stroking. The transfer valve is actuated by pilot valves which are impulsed at each end of the liquid plunger stroke by means of a cam attached to the regulator.

An air filter regulator is installed on each pump to regulate, lubricate and clean the low pressure input air. Normally, air drive input is regulated to determine the pump’s maximum discharge pressure and stroking rate, and adjustment is possible for all pressure levels. The air filter-regulator-lubricator is the only component in the pump that requires periodic maintenance; the liquid must be drained periodically from the air line and the oil well must be kept filled with oil.

These pumps control discharge pressure by the adjustment of the regulator at the low-pressure air inlet. For example, if the regulator is set at 50 psi, the pump will function until a corresponding discharge pressure is achieved and then will stop. As pressure at the discharge end drops, the pump restarts automatically until the balance discharge pressure is again achieved.

Operating noise of the pumps is maintained at a low level by means of mufflers. Noise may be further reduced, if desired, by extending a ¾-inch diameter pipe from the operating air exhaust to the outside of the building.
