Union-Type Superpressure Connectors are used on all standard Superpressure valves, fittings, reaction vessels, and tubing. A complete connection consists of four parts: a male tube, an inner sleeve, a gland nut, and a female opening. The male tube has a 59° conical seating surface that fits into a corresponding 60° female conical seat in the body. The resulting joint can easily be made tight at pressures up to 100,000 psi. The male tube and inner sleeve have left-hand treads. The gland nut and opening in the body have right-hand threads. Thus, when the gland nut is slipped over the sleeve and screwed into the opening in the body, the sleeve is tightened on the tubing at the same time the conical seating surfaces are sealed.
